About Me
A bit of everything.
It took a while, but I’ve found my calling: telling (true) stories.
As a determined third-year student in the world-renowned jazz program at William Paterson University, I have carved out a unique path to earning my bachelor’s degree, combining what started as jazz bass performance and merging it with journalism, an interest I took in high school but disregarded when I became a music major. Now, I act as a voice for music students on my campus, with one goal at the forefront of my mind when I publish a piece: doing my part to bring more recognition to my peers.
I believe that as stellar as a musician can play, there are overlooked factors that matter when it comes to ensuring a musician will make a living. While reporting on current students is my biggest motivation, I also would like to gear my work towards interviewing musicians currently in the jazz scene, to learn how they juggle both the passion and the price of being an artist.
So far as the features editor for my campus newspaper, The Beacon, I have written a variety of articles covering artist visitations to campus (most notably, Chris Potter), music education advocacy, and jazz nonprofit awareness, to name a few. My favorite piece I’ve written, a feature on the retirement of my jazz program director, is the best example of the writing style I’d like to contribute to a music magazine someday, such as DownBeat or Rolling Stone.
My efforts in journalism earned me the William Paterson Outstanding Journalist Award in the spring of 2025 and secured me a job writing for Blue Truffle Music, a small company that works to introduce live jazz to new audiences. In addition to being the features editor at The Beacon, I am also the secretary for my campus chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and have volunteered at ProCon25, the SPJ Region 1 Conference, and the NYC Deadline Club Awards.
Besides writing features, my specific interests include improving my jazz history knowledge by reading biographies, as I’d like to write one on the right person someday. Got any book or listening recommendations? Email me!
